Experience
Vice President & Mozambique County Manager, Anadarko Corporation, Maputo
(2017 – 2019)
Responsible for all in-country activity pertaining to the $20 Billion two train LNG project with 12.88 MTPA capacity, the largest ever investment on the African continent. Instrumental in delivering government approval of the Project Development Plan (POD) in February 2018, and the Final Investment Decision (FID) in June 2019.
General Manager of Corporate Business Development, Chevron Corporation, Houston
(2013 – 2016)
Responsible for identifying and developing impact-sized opportunities in the oil & gas upstream business for the Chevron Corporation. A global role which required a unique mix of technical, commercial and analytical skills, in addition to diplomatic interpersonal and communication abilities. Engaged a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, leading and shaping efforts to mature large scale complex global opportunities from concept to capture. Efforts focussed largely on the Middle East (Abu Dhabi and Qatar) and Turkmenistan’s TAPI cross-country gas pipeline project.
President, Chevron China Energy Company, Beijing
(2010 – 2013)
Responsible for all aspects of Chevron’s Upstream operations in China, including government relations. Conducted a Strategic Review which led to building a business including operations and projects with all three Chinese NOCs (sour gas project with CNPC, Deep and Shallow water offshore blocks with CNOOC and onshore Shale Gas JSA with Sinopec). Made the decision to call for arbitration against ENI in the HZ 25-4 oil field in the offshore CACT operations, settled successfully in Chevron’s favour. Grew to six offices in different locations throughout the country to oversee the various operations. Multi-billion dollar business, total workforce of 3500 with annual profits circa $300 million.
President, Chevron Bangladesh, Dhaka
(2007 – 2010)
Responsible for all Chevron’s upstream operations in Bangladesh, including all government relations, making up a $3 billion business. During my tenure gas production increased from 560 MMSCFD to over 1 BCFD, from 3 operated onshore gas fields, with significant increased support for local communities around Chevron’s facilities through Alternative Livelihood program. Generated over half of Bangladesh’s total gas supply, helping to keep the lights on in a country where 90% of electricity is generated from gas-fired power stations. Handled arbitration and an expert witness with Petrobangla over long-standing pipeline tariff dispute. Workforce of about 2000 people, annual profits circa $250 million.
General Manager of Commercial Development, Chevron Nigeria, Lagos
(2005 – 2007)
General Manager of Commercial Development, responsible for optimizing commercial aspects of all West African projects, particularly in Nigeria. Involved in Olokola & Brass River LNG projects, Deep Water Gas Strategy, Chad, JV asset transactions and various asset swap deals. Created a series of Commercial Processes and a roster of Commercial Competencies which were incorporated into all new projects to address historical cost and schedule overruns due to commercial challenges. Recruited and repatriated 24 mature hire Nigerians from the UK and USA to bolster the company’s commercial bench strength.
Managing Director, Chevron Denmark, Copenhagen
(2004 – 2005)
Scandinavian Director of Operations, responsible for all Operational Upstream activity, with Profit and Loss responsibility for Norway and Denmark. Reporting offices in Copenhagen, Stavanger and Oslo comprising 50 employees, generating a quarter of a billion dollars per year in profits. Conducted Strategic Review in Denmark which led to adding key positions in the organisation to drive a more proactive approach to Maersk operating the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC).
Managing Director, ChevronTexaco Norge, Oslo
(2001 – 2004)
Profit & Loss responsibility & accountability for all upstream operations in Norway, including government relations with the Nigerian Petroleum Directorate (NFD) and the Oil and Gas Ministry (MIE). 100% capture of four Licenses in the 17th & 18th Norwegian Licensing Rounds, after leading a major strategic reassessment and adding technical and commercial competencies into key positions, to take a “task force” approach to Licensing Rounds. Member of the Europe Executive Team, helping formulate and implement Chevron’s strategy in Europe after the Chevron-Texaco merger.
Merger Team Leader, Chevron Corporation
(2000 – 2001)
Member of Chevron-Texaco Merger Team, directly involved with merger implementation and design of the new company’s International Upstream Organisation, specifically Europe and Latin America. The only non-USA based member of the team, travelled extensively between Caracas and Houston during the merger planning and implementation. Led the Latin American Merger Execution Team, which ultimately exceeded synergy cost consolidation targets by 60%.
Regional Director of Global Procurement, Chevron Latin America, Caracas
(2000)
Charged with initiating, developing and working with Country and Profit Centre managers in Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina to create and implement a Global Procurement strategy in Latin America. Carried out a full Strategic Sourcing exercise to consolidate and reduce the total number of suppliers and contractors. Exceeded target for regional procurement savings by 80%, leveraging Chevron’s $800 million spend across the continent.
Vice President of Business Development, Chevron Latin America, Caracas
(1997 – 1999)
Responsible for Chevron’s New Venture activity in Latin America, including M&A responsibility for South America. Through relationships cultivated with the Ferioli family in Buenos Aires, initiated the billion dollar acquisition of San Jorge in Argentina, captured in 1999. Led entry into Brazil by opening office in Rio de Janeiro, developing relationships at senior levels in Petrobras, including the chairman, Philipe Reischtul. Subsequently successful in capturing two of the “blue block” Exploration Licenses in the offshore Campos and Espiritu Santos basins.
New Projects Manager, Chevron Europe, Aberdeen
(1995 – 1996)
Responsible for Chevron’s interest in Stafjord, Clair and all new developments in the North Sea, with $200 million budget responsibility. Successfully led the UK multidisciplinary team against the Norwegians in the final Stafjord redetermination, on behalf of the UK government, BP and Conoco.
Joint Ventures Manager, Chevron Europe, Aberdeen
(1992 – 1994)
$450 million revenue responsibility for all Chevron’s North Sea non-operated fields, shipping & commercialization of all Chevron’s European equity hydrocarbons (specifically UK and Norway). Successfully negotiated the complex Statfjord Satellite Swap Agreement, avoiding major international arbitration.
Staff Analyst, Chevron Overseas Petroleum, San Ramon
(1990 – 1992)
Head office developmental assignment on the International Upstream Executive Staff. Responsible for the International Business Plan compilation, including running of all the plan’s project and asset economics. Previously Senior Petroleum Engineer in the San Ramon based Angola SBU support staff group – executed all reservoir simulation studies and development planning of new discoveries in Angola’s offshore areas B & C, specifically the N’Dola & Sanha fields. Both now on stream and exceeding expectations. President’s award for the Pinda Petrophysical Review.
Senior Commercial Coordinator, Chevron UK Ltd, Aberdeen
(1989 – 1990)
Responsible for successful completion of third party tariff negotiations on Strathspey & Staffa fields, Ninian quarterly crude evaluation and all economic analysis support for Aberdeen Engineering groups.
Lead Reservoir Engineer, Chevron UK Ltd, London
(1985 – 1988)
Lead Reservoir Engineer in New Projects group, responsible for all contact with partners and the Department of Energy, and economic screening work on both the Alba and Britannia projects, leading to positive development decisions on both fields and Amex B submission on Alba. Previously worked on re-unitisation of ex-Gulf fields, increasing equity in the Dunlin field from 9.8% to 14.4% in 1986. Obtained a company-sponsored MBA at the Cass Business School, London City University, in the minimum possible two years, winning the Ashridge Prize.
Wireline Engineer, Schlumberger
(1979 – 1984)
Manager of remote desert location in Oman, responsible for all wireline operations, 40 personnel and 10 million dollar turnover; youngest ever manager in the Middle East division. Prior operational experience in open hole, cased hole and production logging in Indonesia in the Remote Java District, working out of Jakarta (18 months). Initial assignment in Saudi Arabia, with first 18 month contract offshore open hole logging out of Khobar, then ran a land-based production logging truck for a year in the Rub-al-Khali out of Hofuf.
